What are better tattoo or micro chip Chips seem to be used more often nowadays, but are they better or just easier?

I don't really have a preference. I have had dogs with the inner leg tattoo and dogs with a micro chip. I have seen dogs with the ear tattoo, but never owned one with it. Hair grew over the leg tattoo, later on when the dog got older and made it harder to read. Also, if the dog with the leg tattoo got lost, who's going to turn the dog over to look for a tattoo.

Micro chips keep changing. When a registry chooses to go with a different kind, some registries require you to update all your dogs to the new style of chip. This can get costly and now your dog has more than one chip.
No they are finding the chips can cause cancer. The cancer starts around the chip and spreads.
There is no uniform chip across the board, there are so many kinds.

I prefer a tattoo, than a chip. Everyone can read it.

I have had dogs with all three, I'm not sure which is better. I'm up in the air on it, I would like to hear more opinions.
